Coming in 2024 - Zoom classes

Coming January 27, 2024… Diamond Daze via Zoom

As part of my preparation for the Meet the Teacher event at the New England Quilt Museum, I explored a few ideas for new classes and presentations for Guilds, and I’m happy to say that several of them were immediate hits with the participants. Part of that was designed to expand my work as a Certified Instructor, and Black Diamonds is quilt that really grabbed attention.

This is made with the Sew Kind of Wonderful Quick Straight ruler, and the pattern explores the design possibilities of the Half Rectangle blocks, which was something new to me as a quilter. It’s an easy quilt to assemble, but the key to this quilt, for me, was keeping myself organized so that the cuts were aligned correctly. Once you master that, it was just a matter of replicating two different blocks, and then playing with the layout.

Black Diamonds is scheduled on Saturday, January 27, and it’ll be a full day class. You will receive a supply list as well as the zoom link information upon class registration. This class, regularly priced at $75.00, is currently on sale for $510 through mid-December. And although you don’t need to purchase the template and the pattern from me, each student needs to have their own.

On Saturday, February 24th we’ll be exploring a half day class on straight line rulers.

Continuing the series, on February 24th I’ll be hosting a half day workshop via zoom on quilting with a Straight Line ruler. Each of the motifs in the quilt sample have been made using a single straight line ruler, and we’ll cover these in the class. I’m particularly excited about this as a Zoom because you will get to work with your machine in your own space, and with rulers, it’s important to get the ergonomics right.

We’ll spend several hours together working on the designs, but we’ll begin with what makes a good straight line ruler for you. We’ll talk markings, registration marks, and how to incorporate those designs into your quilt top. There isn’t a pattern written for the quilt that’s a class sample, it’s simply a large scale disappearing 9 patch made of solids from my stash - but it works in this case. All you’ll need is a group of quilt sandwiches to work from. This is a skill builder class.

This is a 3(ish) hour class, and my goal for this class is for you to become comfortable enough with the technique to continue working with it on your own; you may or may not want to experiment with other rulers once you are done. You will receive a detailed supply list upon class registration, and a handout with the motifs will be sent to you about a week prior to class.

You will need a ruler foot that fits your machine in order to take this class.

The introductory price of $35 will be in effect until mid-December. And I have brought in my favorite rulers for this technique, the Angela Walters slim ruler.

I have a comprehensive schedule of classes for 2024 scheduled, but for now, I am releasing these two for open registration. If you have any questions about either of these classes, please feel free to email me.

Thank you so much for spending some time with me. Come back again soon!
